“She Found Her Tribe”: STEM From Dance Launches School-Based Clubs to Spark Belonging in STEM

NEW YORK, Oct. 13, 2025 /PRNewswire/ — What happens when you mix beats with algorithms, or pair Afrobeats with AI? Students across the country are finding out through STEM From Dance Clubs, a brand-new program that’s helping young people discover that STEM isn’t just about coding or calculations. It’s about creativity, confidence, and community.

Earlier this fall, a caregiver in Syracuse sent a message that the STEM From Dance team can’t stop thinking about: “I feel like my baby found her tribe.”

She was describing her daughter’s transformation: going from nervous and unsure to beaming with pride on stage, surrounded by new friends and the thrill of seeing her ideas come alive.

That’s exactly what Clubs are designed to do: give every student a place where STEM feels magnetic, joyful, and truly theirs.

What Are Clubs?

Clubs are free, school-based STEM + Dance programs built around 10-week “tracks”, each focused on a specific STEM theme. Every track blends 3–5 modules, and each module features 2–3 engaging, project-based lessons (about 2 hours each). The recommended run time is 10 full weeks, but tracks can be customized to fit any school or community schedule. Clubs are held in person and can launch at any time of year, with 3–4 weeks of lead time recommended for setup.

Sample modules include:
Reggaeton and Algorithms, Break Dance Machine, Hoop Dancing & Physics, and Afrobeats & AI.

Here’s what Clubs bring to life:

  • A sense of belonging — 76% of SFD students report feeling they truly belong in STEM, compared to just 35% nationally.
  • Ready-to-use curriculum & training — Educators get everything they need, no extra planning required.
  • Flexible design — Clubs adapt to schools and community organizations.
  • Free for schools & educators — Because access should never be a barrier.

“Every girl deserves to walk into a STEM classroom and think, ‘These are my people. This is where I belong.’ That’s what Clubs are creating, school by school, community by community,” says Yamilée Toussaint, MIT engineer, Founder & CEO of STEM From Dance, and 2024 CNN Hero.
